Science, Meaning and the Imagination: How can we bring the human being back into our science? @ Rudolf Steiner House

In this talk we will trace developments in culture and science that have led us to have immense
factual knowledge at our fingertips, while also experiencing a potentially dangerous loss of meaning
for our lives. We will also be ‘meeting’ some remarkable plants through observation and artistic
exercises.

Jonathan Code is a lecturer with, and Deputy Director of, Crossfields Institute International.
He co-leads on CII’s MA in Researching Holistic Agroecology, run in collaboration with Alanus
Hochschule, Germany. His book Muck and Mind: Encountering Biodynamic Agriculture (Lindisfarne
Press 2014) explores the potential for alchemical ways of knowing to inform contemporary research
and practice in land stewardship.

Advanced Soap Making @ Trill Farm
Nov 4 @ 9:30 am – Nov 5 @ 4:30 pm

Join us for a weekend where we will go deeper into the wonderful craft of soap making.

We will begin this two-day hands-on workshop by refreshing our understanding and practice of making cold-process soaps using plants harvested from the farm. We will then work with various techniques of refining the soap making process and make some specialty soaps including milk-based soap, marbled soap, embedding hand-built shapes into soap and will explore other creative possibilities in this fascinating craft. The course will suit those who have some background in soap making though previous experience with soap making is not essential.

You will leave with a collection of your own soaps and the knowledge and skills to carry on crafting soap at home.

To buy tickets:

Please visit the Trill Farm website.

About the Tutor:

Jonathan developed soap making as an educational workshop while working at Ruskin Mill College – a land-based FE college in Gloucestershire. Over the last twenty years he has taught this fascinating craft to college students and teachers, in public workshops both nationally and internationally, and in the context of professional development for staff in a number of organisations.
